Some have commented that there’s better pizza than Domino’s, but like Papa John’s (which we’ve always enjoyed more) it’s a popular choice for quick food on a budget, and of course it’s a favorite comfort food for those who love it. They also delivered for years out of a space in the Small Mall in the northeast that became Rogan’s Northeast and is now Northeast Pizza and the Scale House Brewpub. Just a block away on the Commons are two new pizza options, Thompson and Bleecker and Pasta Vitto.ĭomino’s has had a decades-long history in Ithaca, operating a downtown location next to Napoli Pizzeria in the former gas station building that’s right where the Gateway Commons building is now, moved next door to the Gateway Center when that building was renovated about 15 years ago, and then moved to the Gateway Commons space several years ago. Meantime, Ithaca’s pizza scene runs the gamut from flatbreads at the farmers market, McCormick’s, and Agava, to lunch deals and late-night staples at Sammy’s, Papa John’s, and Casablanca, to premium pies at Ciao, Luna, and Sal’s. Just across the street, the new City Centre building is weeks away from opening, and new locations there for the Ithaca Ale House and Collegetown Bagels will help anchor the new food neighborhood. The former Sticky Rice space now features Shahi Pakwan, a new Indian place with a varied lunch buffet. Nearby, Nikki Green and Sticky Rice also closed in recent months. There’s certainly no shortage of pizza in Ithaca, even within a few-minute walk, but the closure comes right on the heels of Napoli Pizzeria shutting its doors right next door in the Gateway Center building.
